Liran Shlush

Liran I. Shlush, M.D., Ph.D. is a Senior Scientist at the Weizmann Institute of Science, head of its new medical school, and an active hematologist. His work focuses on leukemia development. He identified pre-leukemic stem cells and showed that mutations accumulate years before diagnosis. His team demonstrated that AML can be predicted in healthy individuals through molecular signatures, enabling early detection and prevention efforts. They also developed targeted therapies for splicing mutations, uncovered mechanisms of early leukemogenesis, and revealed the role of bone marrow fat. Additionally, his group created a noninvasive single-cell RNA-based assay. Dr. Shlush received ERC grants in 2016 and 2024.
