Francesco Paolo Casale is a Principal Investigator at Helmholtz Munich, where he develops AI methods to uncover interpretable mechanisms of human disease. He received his PhD in Statistical Genetics from the University of Cambridge and EMBL–European Bioinformatics Institute in 2016, where he worked on computational methods for multimodal human genetics and contributed to international efforts including the 1000 Genomes Project and the Blueprint initiative. He later joined Microsoft Research New England, working on probabilistic machine learning. From 2019 to 2021, he was Head of Statistical Genetics at insitro, integrating human genetics and AI for disease modelling. He started his research group in Munich in 2022.
