Maria Hondele obtained her PhD from EMBL Heidelberg and LMU Munich with Andreas Ladurner, followed by postdoctoral training in Karsten Weis’s laboratory at ETH Zurich.

In 2020, she established her independent research group at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.

Maria's research focuses on how specialised microenvironments, such as bimolecular condensates, enable cells to sense messenger ribonucleoprotein integrity and coordinate RNA quality control and gene expression.

To this these questions, we combine quantitative approaches in cell biology, biochemistry and in vitro reconstitution.
