Professor Takanori Takebe, MD PhD is Endowed Chair of Organoid Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and Director of Commercial Innovation for Center for Stem Cell and Organoid Medicine (CuSTOM) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He is also a Professor and deputy director of Premium Institute for Human Metaverse Medicine (WPI-PRIMe) at Osaka University.

His lab seeks to develop and apply novel approaches and tools to recapitulate, probe and manipulate human liver development and to understand the personalized molecular mechanisms that lead to disease. Towards this goal, he is building experimental organogenesis approaches to engineer hepato-pancreato-biliary systems using pluripotent stem cells in vitro and in animals to construct and deconstruct previously inaccessible phases of human liver health and disease.

Dr Takebe is elected member of American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI).  He is on the board of directors for the International Society for Stem Cell Research and the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine and editorial advisor to Cell Stem Cell and Cell Reports Medicine. Major awards include Ig Nobel Prize for Physiology, Vilcek Award for Creative Promise, ISSCR Outstanding Young Investigator, and NIH Director’s New Innovator Award.
