清华大学生命科学学院长聘副教授、清华-北大生命科学联合中心研究员,国家杰出青年科学基金获得者。于2006年在中国科大获得计算机博士学位,2012年在哥伦比亚大学获得生物物理博士学位,随后分别在哥伦比亚大学、斯坦福大学从事博士后研究。2015年加入清华大学,主要从事人工智能(AI)驱动的结构生物学、基因组学交叉领域研究。以AI生物学研究方法开发为基础,聚焦RNA结构研究,开发了细胞内RNA结构高通量解析新技术,并结合AI算法应用于解析细胞内RNA及病毒RNA基因组结构图谱,发现并验证了多个RNA结构元件及其功能。实验室还致力于开发单细胞基因组学、空间转录组学数据智能解析和结构生物学AI新算法。以通讯作者身份发表Cell, Nature Genetics等杂志学术文章多篇。主持国家杰出青年科学基金项目、基金委重点项目、科技部重点研发计划等多个科研项目。
获得2024年度科学探索奖、2022年第五届普洛麦格生物化学奖,赛诺菲-Cell Research 2021年度杰出论文奖等学术奖励,工作入选2019、2021、2024年中国生物信息学十大进展。现任膜生物学全国重点实验室副主任、中国生物信息学学会(筹)人工智能与生命科学专委会主任、Molecular Cell, Cell Systems, Genomics Proteomics & Bioinformatics等杂志编委。
Dr. Qiangfeng Cliff ZHANG is a tenured Associate Professor at the School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University, and a Principal Investigator at the Tsinghua-Peking University Joint Center for Life Sciences. He is also a Recipient of the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund. Dr. ZHANG earned his first PhD in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2006 and a second PhD in Biophysics from Columbia University in 2012. He worked at Columbia University and Stanford University as a postdoctoral scientist, and then joined Tsinghua University in 2015 as an assistant professor.
Dr. ZHANG primarily engages in AI-driven interdisciplinary research in structural biology and genomics. His research interests include the development of AI-powered biological methods with a focus on RNA structure. By combining these technologies with AI algorithms, the lab has decoded the genome structures of cellular RNAs and several RNA viruses, leading to the discovery and validation of multiple functional RNA structural elements. The lab is also dedicated to designing new AI algorithms for intelligent data analysis in single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, and structural biology. Dr. ZHANG has published numerious academic papers as a corresponding author in prestigious journals such as Cell and Nature Genetics. He leads multiple research projects, including the National Outstanding Young Scientist Fund, the key projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Key Research and Development Project from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
Dr. ZHANG has received several academic awards, including the X-Explorer Award for 2024, the Fifth Promega Biochemistry Award in 2022, and the Sanofi-Cell Research Outstanding Paper Award in 2021. His work has been recognized as one of the Top Ten Advances in Bioinformatics in China in 2019 and 2021. Currently, Dr. ZHANG serves as the Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Life Sciences Committee of the China Society of Bioinformatics (under preparation) and as an editorial board member for journals such as Molecular Cell, Cell Systems, and Genomics Proteomics & Bioinformatics.
