Dr. Victoria Abraira is an Associate Professor of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University. With expertise in mouse molecular genetics, her research is dedicated to unraveling the somatosensory system—the mechanisms of touch, pain, and proprioception, and the intricate spinal cord circuits that govern these fundamental experiences. She trained as a systems neuroscientist during her Ph.D. with Dr. Lisa Goodrich at Harvard Medical School, studying the molecules and circuits of the inner ear, and in her postdoctoral work with Dr. David Ginty, also at Harvard, exploring somatosensory processing at the neural circuit level. Her contributions have been recognized by the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Rita Allen Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, and as a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. Her work has been published in journals including Cell and Neuron and featured in outlets such as Scientific American and PBS.
