Dr Behmoaras’ primary focus is to understand and target macrophage biology in complex inflammatory disorders and during immune ageing. He has completed his PhD in University of Paris Cité where he worked on genetic components of vascular pathology. He joined Imperial College London in 2005. As a postdoc and Junior Research Fellow at Imperial, he undertook systems genetics studies in immune-mediated diseases and secured his PI position in 2010. His group revealed the primary role of macrophage gene and metabolic networks in inflammatory disease. Some examples of this approach include the importance of targeting macrophage leucine and iron metabolism in renal inflammation and fibrosis. More recently, his group at Duke NUS has initiated a research program aiming to target immune ageing with natural compounds. The group combines multi-omics approaches and AI-based methodology with nutraceuticals for a mechanistic understanding of immune ageing through macrophage function.
