Matthias Mann, Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Germany
Matthias Mann is Director of the Department of Proteomics and Signal Transduction at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried. A pioneer of mass spectrometry-based proteomics, he has spent three decades transforming the field — from foundational contributions to electrospray ionization and quantitative proteomics, to cutting-edge technologies including Deep Visual Proteomics, AI-driven single-cell workflows, and high-throughput mass spectrometry platforms for proteome-wide drug target identification. These approaches span applications in biomarker discovery, neurological disease, and precision medicine. A recipient of numerous international awards, he has authored nearly 1,000 publications with over 390,000 citations (h-index 284), and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
