Andreas Strasser

Professor Andreas Strasser is Head of the Blood Cells and Blood Cancer Division at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Professor Strasser is a world leader in programmed cell death, the BCL-2 protein family and the tumour suppressor p53. His pioneering work established that deregulation of apoptosis drives cancer, therapy resistance, and autoimmunity, which underpinned the development of BH3 mimetic drugs, with the BCL-2 inhibitor Venetoclax FDA approved for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and acute myeloid leukaemia. He has published over 500 research and review articles with more than 112,000 citations.
